The Borrego Badlands & Font's Point

A sweeping overlook across eroded, wrinkled hills — one of the most dramatic sunset views in Southern California.

Getting to Font's Point

From S22 east of town, turn south onto Font's Point Wash. The road is soft sand in places and conditions change after storms. Ask at the visitor center about current conditions; some visitors park and walk the final stretch.

Other badlands viewpoints

  • Vista del Malpais — another overlook reached from S22.
  • The S22 drive itself crosses the badlands with roadside pull-outs.

Safety

  • Don't drive into deep sand without proper tires and recovery gear.
  • There is no railing at the overlook edge — watch children closely.
  • Leave before full dark if you're unsure of the road out.

Conditions change — confirm roads, hours and closures before you go.
