The Metal Sculptures of Galleta Meadows

More than a hundred giant metal sculptures by artist Ricardo Breceda stand in the open desert around Borrego Springs — dinosaurs, mammoths and a 350-foot serpent.

What you'll see

Scattered across private land open to the public, the sculptures depict prehistoric animals that once lived in the region, along with desert wildlife, historical figures and a famous sea serpent that appears to swim beneath Borrego Springs Road.

How to visit

  • Pick up a sculpture map in town or use an online map.
  • Drive between groups; most are near Borrego Springs Road and Henderson Canyon Road.
  • Stay on established dirt paths and respect the land — it's private property shared generously.
  • Allow one to two hours to see the highlights.

Conditions change — confirm roads, hours and closures before you go.
